AGRITECHNICA 2011 - Biomethane Recognised as Mainstream

Greenlane Biogas, the Flotech Group’s renewable energy division, reports its most successful year yet at Agritechnica in Hanover, Germany.

The November 2011 event attracted some 420,000 visitors from 83 countries and as the Greenlane team reported “biomethane has clearly hit mainstream as interest continues to wane in older technologies such as CHP and ORC and investors seek solutions that maximise yield. People are now highly informed about biogas upgrading and this was reflected by a marked increase in qualified interest".

Greenlane had a full size Kanuka system on display, which proved a massive attraction to the thousands of visitors. The Kanuka processes up to 300 Nm³/h and is now creating interest as a result of realignment of EEG Laws (German renewable energy tariff framework). Kanuka is now of interest to hundreds of existing combined heat and power (CHP) operators as a technology upgrade – to replace CHP installations as major (and costly and frequent) overhauls become due. This model serves an important niche – but it has become popular due to its compact size, proven technology, patented WFS compressor system, and of course fast, smooth installation as a standard module.

At the 2011 fair, Greenlane accepted orders for two of its range-topping Totara units (each capable of 2500 Nm³/h) in addition to a mid-size Rimu. The Totaras have been delivered to a sugar processor in Anklam, Germany and will soon be in operation; the Rimu is also destined for Germany. Greenlane registered hundreds of carefully screened, qualified enquiries and is now busy negotiating delivery schedules and reinforcing its supply chain and support infrastructure to cope with booming demand.

Agritechnica 2011 was a huge success for the biomethane industry in general as it reinforced the now widely held view that biogas must be upgraded to maximise its value. As the leading brand in this sector, Greenlane took great pride in sharing that recognition. We look forward to an even more exciting and successful next event at the “twinned” Eurotier expo held 13th-16th November 2012.
